Project Overview
Client Kickoff
The Ebenezer International Gospel of Peace Deliverance Temple (EIGOPDT) sought a UX redesign to enhance their website's usability, accessibility, and visual appeal for a diverse audience, including congregation members, new visitors, and those seeking online services. The primary goal was to create a cohesive digital experience that reflects EIGOPDT’s values and facilitates user engagement with key features like sermons, events, and online giving.
Streamlining Navigation: Simplifying the navigation to improve access to core sections like sermons, donation, and events.
Improving User Flow: Designing intuitive pathways for various user types—first-time visitors, congregation members, and volunteers.
Enhancing Accessibility: Ensuring that the site adheres to WCAG guidelines, making it accessible to users with disabilities.
Creating a Design System: Developing a consistent design language, including fonts, colors, and iconography, that resonates with the church's branding and mission.
Modernizing Visuals: Updating the website’s aesthetic to balance modernity with the church’s traditional values.
Objectives
Notes
EIGOPDT emphasized the importance of a modern yet reverent design that respects the spiritual tone of the church.
A mobile-responsive layout was critical, as many users would access the site on smartphones and tablets.
Personas
Although this project did not involve extensive research, assumptions based on target users (e.g., congregation members, new visitors) guided design choices.
Competitive Analysis
For our competitive analysis, we examined church websites with polished, user-centered designs to identify best practices and areas for improvement. We assessed navigation, mobile responsiveness, sermon access, giving processes, community engagement, and accessibility.
The analysis revealed unique strengths and weaknesses across each site. For example:
COGIC provided a rich set of resources but had a more traditional layout that could benefit from streamlined navigation.
New Life Covenant (Jabula Ministries) emphasized community engagement with a vibrant design but showed potential improvements in accessibility features and interactive tools.
The Potter’s House showcased a high-impact, modern aesthetic with strong accessibility and interactive live-streaming options, setting a high standard for engagement tools.
Mobile First Design
Testing
Process
We conducted weekly qualitative user tests, both moderated and unmoderated, to validate design features and iterate based on user feedback. Testing sessions focused on essential interactions like accessing sermons, donating online, and finding events, ensuring that the user journey was intuitive and efficient.
What we found
Feedback highlighted the importance of clear and consistent layouts for events and donations, prompting us to implement simplified navigation and visually distinct buttons. This approach helped streamline complex processes like event registration and online giving, with clear calls to action and intuitive prompts guiding users.
Results
Through iterative testing, we were able to refine the EIGOPDT website to create a welcoming, accessible, and user-centered experience that aligned with the church’s mission and served the congregation’s needs.
Design System
The aim was to create a visually appealing app with a slick, electric feel. After conducting a thorough audit of the existing components and working with the team, we established design principles and patterns that aligned with the brand. The resulting system prioritized visual harmony, readability of data, a cohesive brand identity, and a more efficient development workflow.
